ĀHUA: New Works Development

Āhua (meaning form, shape, or seeing what emerges) is the New Zealand Dance Company's annual in-house choreographic development programme, creating dedicated space for curiosity, experimentation, and artistic growth.

Over four weeks, NZDC dance artists build upon movement ideas they have developed throughout the year, transforming solo explorations into new collaborative works. The programme encourages each artist to lead from their own creative voice, embracing discovery, risk-taking, and the unexpected.

This year's developments are led by NZDC artists Isope Akauola, Caterina Moreno, Eden Kew, and Anya Down, who each guide a week of creative exploration alongside their fellow company members. The residency is further enriched by the participation of seconded dancers from the New Zealand School of Dance, fostering collaboration, mentorship, and the exchange of new ideas.
