Repertoire &
Creation Workshop

We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting renowned choreographer and founder of Countertechnique, Anouk van Dijk, for a week-long Countertechnique, Repertoire & Creation workshop!

Countertechnique Trailer

Countertechnique is a movement system to encourage dancers to think about their dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action. Within a clear structure of exercises, the Countertechnique class thoroughly prepares the body for rehearsal and performance, enabling dancers to move bigger, more fluidly and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible. Countertechnique provides tools for body and mind to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. Dancers are encouraged to be pro-active in discovering connections and solutions, to be less concerned with judging themselves and to work in a healthy way with regard to body and mind.

The only Countertechnique workshop in New Zealand for 2019, this week is a not-to-be missed opportunity for professional dancers and advanced tertiary dance students to learn from none other than Anouk van Dijk herself, creator and developer of Countertechnique and former Artistic Director of Australian Dance Company Chunky Move (2012-2019). Be prepared to move, sweat, laugh, think, try, err, and challenge yourself in this highly sought-after programme.

Workshop Schedule

The workshop will start each day with a 1 hour 45 minute Countertechnique class followed by a 1 hour Practical Tools session, which will introduce different tools each day.

After lunch, you will engage in Repertoire & Creation, learning material from one of Anouk van Dijk’s most recent works, Common Ground while also creating new material, applying the Countertechnique tools.

The Countertechnique class and Practical Tools session are all about enabling dancers to make pro-active choices while dancing, resulting in bigger, more fluid and spatial movements, while becoming stronger and more flexible. The Repertoire & Creation segment will be aimed at professional dancers, who are able to work quickly, think creatively and perform at a high physical level.
