Oliver Carruthers

Born and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau, Oliver graduated from Unitec with a degree majoring in Contemporary Dance. He has just spent four years with Footnote New Zealand Dance company, performing in a multitude of national tours during this time. Oliver has also performed with The New Zealand Dance Company, Okareka Dance Company, and World of Wearable Art.

Recently, he was a featured dancer and co-choreographer for Hollie Smith’s music video for the second single off her new album. Oliver's other performance credits include the BBC’s Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular and acting roles in the New Zealand TV series Hillary, and the American TV series Ash v Evil Dead.

As well as performing on the stage and screen, Oliver enjoys choreographing and creating. He was the recipient of the Best Solo Performance Award and Standout Performer Award in Short and Sweet Festival for his self-choreographed work Not, and his work Jargon was selected to be performed at Tempo Festival.

Oliver has been lucky to be able to share his love for movement through teaching classes at Aotearoa’s leading dance convention ‘Kairos Dance Convention’, the New Zealand School of Dance, professional companies, and in schools and studios all around Aotearoa.

Oliver is thrilled to be returning for his second season at The New Zealand Dance Company for the upcoming world premiere of Stage of Being.
